my family
Chappaqua, NY, is home to me now, to my husband and baby girl, Naomi. Montreal is "home" too. It's where I grew up, and my parents, grandmother, uncles, aunts and cousins are all "Montrealers." My brother lives in Los Angeles.
Family photographs are a key source of inspiration for me. I love to pore over childhood photos of my brother and me, of my parents and grandparents as children. I treasure these visual heirlooms and pictorial documents that constitute my family's history.
The process of looking at old family photos has yet another layer of meaning once one becomes a parent. Now that you have a child, you find yourself searching for family resemblances and trying to pinpoint facial expressions, which may or may not be genetic. Does she have Great Aunt Rose's smile? Where did he get his red hair?
And then there's the realization that, as a parent, you have a responsibility to be your family historian, so that your children will know and appreciate their history and legacy.
my baby
My daughter, Naomi Rose Shapiro, is the first grandchild to four sets of grandparents, so she lacks nothing in the tickling and babysitting departments. Born at 12-noon on 02-04-02, her very symmetrical birthday closely matches her very even, easy personality. Biased parent that I am, I'm sure she is the most beautiful baby ever born. You undoubtedly feel that way about your children! Naomi is photographed very often, as I'm sure you can imagine. I hope she'll grow up learning to love the camera - from both sides of the lens!
Can I show you my baby's pictures?!
